The Southern African Association for Institutional Research (SAAIR) is a dynamic professional body dedicated to advancing the field of institutional research within higher education across Southern Africa. Established in 1994, SAAIR has been instrumental in promoting evidence-based decision-making, strategic planning, and operational effectiveness in higher education institutions throughout the region.
SAAIR's mission is to foster a collaborative environment that encourages the collection, interpretation, exchange, and dissemination of information pertinent to higher education and its institutions. We aim to further the professional development and training of individuals engaged in institutional research and analysis, facilitating their utilization in planning, management, and resource allocation to improve higher education outcomes. We envision a landscape where every higher education institution in Southern Africa possesses an effective Institutional Research (IR) unit. These units are pivotal in promoting institutional research, training, development, and the exchange of information, thereby enhancing the quality and effectiveness of higher education.
SAAIR boasts a membership of over 350 professionals from more than 40 institutions, primarily located in South Africa, Namibia, and Botswana. Our members benefit from a range of opportunities, including capacity development programs, networking events, and access to a wealth of resources designed to support their professional growth and the advancement of institutional research.
To support our mission, SAAIR organizes various activities such as annual conferences, forums, and institutes. These events provide platforms for members to share best practices, engage in professional development, and collaborate on research initiatives.
